  • Essential oils

  • Equipment

  • Saucepan
  • Skewers
  • Hob
  • Scissors

  • Method

Step 1: Prepare Your Wicks & Jars

Place the wicks in the jars and stick the metal piece flat against the bottom of the jar using glue or tape. Use the skewers to hold up the wicks. Balance the skewers along the opening of the jar and tape the ends of the skewers to keep everything in place. Ensure that that the wick is central of the jar.

    Step 2: Measure Your Wax

Measure out the amount of candle wax flakes you’ll need for each of your containers. Always use a heat safe jug for this. You’ll need two times the amount of wax flakes to fill each candle jar.

    Step 3: Melt The Wax

Pop your heat safe jug in the microwave and heat for one minute increments until the wax has just about melted then take out of the microwave. Alternatively, use a bain marie on your hob on a low heat. Never leave the wax unattended as it may burn.

Step 4: Colour The Wax (Optional)

Add colour to your candles by throwing in a non toxic wax crayon to the melted wax. Give it a stir until the crayon melts giving the wax an even colour.

Step 5: Add Your Choice of Scent

Once all the wax is completely melted you can add in your scents. Add 10 drops of essential oil per candle. You may use less or more depending on what you like. Try out different combinations of oils to find your perfect blend. Add the essential oils to your melted wax and give it a good stir.

Step 6: Pour The Wax Into The Jars

Very carefully and slowly add your wax mixture to your prepared jars. Pour slowly to avoid air bubbles and sink holes.

Step 7: Leave The Candle To Set

Allow around 3 hours for your candles to cool and harden. It’s best to let them solidify at room temperature or cooler. This prevents cracks in the wax. If your room is very warm your candle will take longer to set.
